As of August 1, 2025, the HUN-REN Research Centre for the Humanities continues its operations as the ELTE (Eötvös Loránd University) Research Centre for the Humanities. Within this new structure, the former Institute of Archaeology has been renamed Institute of Archaeology, ELTE Research Centre for the Humanities.
This transformation was implemented based on Resolution No. 22/2025. (VI. 20.) of the Governing Board of the HUN-REN Hungarian Research Network and Resolution No. CXCI/2025. (VII. 07.) of the Senate of Eötvös Loránd University. The reorganization was carried out pursuant to Section 14/A of Act CCIV of 2011 on National Higher Education.
The institution formerly overseen by the HUN-REN Hungarian Research Network now continues its activities as an organizational unit with legal personality, operating under the direct supervision of the Rector of Eötvös Loránd University (ELTE). In terms of all legal relationships and obligations, the research centre is the legal successor of the former HUN-REN Research Centre for the Humanities. Within ELTE, it operates with a high degree of autonomy: it has its own treasury identification number, tax number, and bank account number; it manages its finances independently; submits grant applications autonomously; and is directly connected to the treasury's payroll and several other systems. Employment relationships of the staff members continue uninterrupted and under unchanged conditions.
